General Information About the Department:
Siirt University Gastronomy and Culinary Arts department started education in the fall semester of 2022-2023. The department is affiliated to Siirt University Tourism Management and School. The courses within the scope of the program will be carried out in the Faculty of Theology located in Siirt University Kezer campus. The head of the program is Asst. Prof. Dr. Serkan GÜN.
Department Learning Objectives:
- To train gastronomes who can compete in the international arena and who are fluent in at least two languages,
- To educate individuals who constantly examine the innovations in the field of gastronomy and conduct research in the field of food and beverage,
- To publish both theoretical and practical research results in the national and international arena and to contribute to the production of knowledge for this purpose,
- To cooperate with national and international tourism education institutions with similar status in order to better educate students and to increase the level of knowledge of teaching staff,
- To organize meetings, seminars, congresses at national and international level on issues concerning the sector and to participate actively or as a listener in meetings organized by other institutions,
- To contribute to social development by organizing continuing education programs open to the community and enabling the community to benefit from the educational potential,
- To contribute to the sustainable development of gastronomy activities in the region.
Scientific and Professional Qualifications:
Knowledge (Program Qualifications): Siirt University Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department structurally incorporates three main academic disciplines. These disciplines are gastronomy, tourism and business administration.
Skills (Field Qualifications): Students use appropriate methods and techniques for the development of creative, critical and scientific thinking, questioning, research and problem solving skills. Students have the ability to use professional technical knowledge (equipment use, automation, computer programs, information systems) needed in the tourism sector.
Career / Employment Opportunities: Graduates can find job opportunities in private and public sectors including food and beverage businesses, tourism businesses and other business administration fields. They also find academic career opportunities by turning to graduate education.
