Recreation Management


The quota for the Recreation Management Department is foreseen as 30 new students every year, and the language of education is Turkish.

Basic English and Professional English are scheduled in our department besides an optional language which can be selected from language pool composed of Russian or French.

Purpose of Opening Recreation Management Program;

Today, the cultural and moral development of societies largely depend on the way they use leisure time. Accordingly, Recreation has become an obligation both in meeting the needs of people and creating a healthy social structure within the scope of the requirements of the era. Recreation has an important place in the life of people in terms of contributing to the physical, mental, cultural and social development of individuals of all ages, together with entertainment, sports, arts, hobbies, mental, cultural, social and natural activities, and contributing to tourism and sports activities in regional and national economies. The main purpose of the "Recreation Management" department, within the Siirt University School of Tourism and Hotel Management, is to be equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of recreation management at a level that will contribute to the development of social, economic, recreational and technical aspects in the field of tourism and sports. Having graduates speaking minimum two foreign languages ​​and develop analytical thinking to train qualified employees, middle and upper level manager candidates with these talents. For this purpose, students will be equipped with knowledge and skills related to foreign language, tourism and sports sector, tourism and sports businesses, entertainment facilities management, modern management, management and leadership, recreation business management, and computer technologies.

 Fields of Employment for Graduates of the Program

Students graduated from the Recreation Management program will have important advantages in terms of career and employment opportunities. This department, is presently new in universities of Turkey and has very few graduates yet. Students graduating from the program will be able to find employment opportunities mainly in the following areas with the education they received.

1. As recreation instructors in special education centers

2. As a manager in sports facilities and units

3.As a practitioner in recreation services units of local governments

4. As a specialist within the General Directorate of Youth and Sports

5. As an instructor in the Gerontology (Elderly Care Science) departments of State, University and Private Hospitals

6.As animation manager and practitioner within touristic facilities, recreational facilities and holiday villages

7.As a child recreation organiser within the scope of children's camps and private kindergartens

8.As a manager in cinema, theater, music hall, fair, theme park and similar entertainment enterprises

9.As social facilities manager of public enterprises (Must have a good grade from Public Personnel Selection Exam)

10. As an academic staff at universities (Must fulfill the academic career requirements).

 There is a serious demand for personnel in both the public and private sectors related to all these fields and the number of well-equipped graduates with undergraduate education is very low in the market. In addition, the Department of Recreation and its programs is a very common and popular undergraduate education field in universities in the United States, Canada, France, Spain and Australia, which are especially socially developed.

Compulsory İnternship

Internship is an application that enables the students of Recreation Management program to increase their professional development in order to prepare for business life in the public and private sectors. With compulsory internship, It is aimed to recognize the business areas related to the program before graduation, to reinforce the knowledge of the courses given in the academic program by applying them at the workplace, to prepare for the courses to be taken in the following semesters, to introduce students with the work they can do in the workplace environment and with institutions related to their education. Therefore the work done in businesses or institutions should be observed in as much detail as possible. In addition, by doing this internship, students will be provided with experience in institution / company-management-employee relations and interaction.

In order for the students to graduate successfully, they must complete their 60-day internship. Internships will be done in line with the "Tourism and Hotel Management School Internship Directive" in areas related to recreational activities. Internship can be done during the summer holidays when they are eligible from the end of the second semester until the graduation stage.
